DAOIST BREATHING MEDITATION

Deep abdominal breathing is the foundational Daoist Breathing method and is a powerful practice to nourish the kidneys during Winter. In this YOQI breath regulation practice I will not only be guiding you how to breathe, I will also guide you to follow a precisely timed rate and volume of inhalation and exhalation. The goal is to generate the Qi in the Lower Dantian in a way that the nervous system, heart, brain, kidneys and adrenal glands all relax and synchronize in a pattern of optimal communication. The routine has four stages:

PART 1 - THE INNER SMILE: It’s very important to begin any energy practice from a state of acceptance and love. In this way you will be protected and open to receive the blessings of the universe during your practice. The Inner Smile is a powerful technique to open your connection to the unconditional love in your heart.

PART 2 - SUSTAINED, CIRCULAR DEEP ABDOMINAL BREATHING: The next step is to establish deep abdominal breathing for a count of six breaths per minute. During the meditation a bell will chime to help you keep the precise rate.

PART 3 - EMPOWERING THE CENTRAL MERIDIAN: In the third phase of the meditation you will move the Qi that you have generated up and down the Central Meridian. The Central Meridian is the main channel of energy that runs through the core of your body from the crown of your head down to the pelvic floor along the spinal cord. It is a powerful conduit of heaven Qi and earth Qi, that feed all the organs in your body.

PART 4 - NOURISH YOUR QI: Finally you will release the exercise and take a Qi nap. This may be the most pleasurable part of the meditation when your body naturally drifts into a deep Yin state of relaxation. This is the optimal time to nourish your Qi and absorb all the benefits from the practice.
